Once again, this year, opening night of XV Edition of the Emilia Romagna Festival will feature a female composer. Following in the footsteps of the most excellent Sofija Gubajdulina, the protagonist of last year’s inauguration, this year ERF will host the world premiere of Partita per flauti e archi, a work by young but accomplished, Roman composer Silvia Colasanti.

As Colasanti herself explains, “It is a contemporary re-reading of the Baroque partita form, my composition alludes to a set of stylized dances, in a respectful spirit for each dance, while employing the regular meter, fixed pace and obsessive, obstinate structures that are typical of Baroque rhythm.”

Silvia Colasanti’s piece engages in a dialogue with some of Bach’s most famous compositions, including the two Brandenburg concerts. The piece will be performed by three extraordinary artists- acclaimed Iranian pianist Ramin Bahrami, who is one of the world’s top experts and interpreters of Bach; our director flutist Massimo Mercelli, who has just recorded for the Decca label the integral version of Bach composition for flute and piano with the Iranian pianist, and the I Solisti Aquilani a refined chamber music orchestra in residence for the ERF 2015 season.

Be sure not to miss the opening night of the XV edition on Saturday 18 July, at 9,00 PM, at the Castel San Pietro Terme Arena!
