The musical season of the Ebe Stignani Theatre of Imola, which is part of the Emilia Romagna Festival and organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Imola, will start again with a large programme that will take place from October 16th 2018 to April 16th 2019. Eleven prestigious concerts with great Italian and international names of the classical music, to which are added 4 appointments of L’Opera nel Ridotto..
The season will start on October 16 with a pyrotechnic inauguration: Kirill Troussov, one of the leading violinists of his generation with an incredible international career, will perform with the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra Budapest, in the 8 Seasons – a concert in which the Four Seasons by Vivaldi and the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla will be performed in a comparison of styles, eras and climates.
The second concert will be on November 13 with the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble that will perform three sacred cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach. Andrzej Kosendiak, founder of the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble and among the most important conductors in Poland, will accompany four important voices specialized in the performance of ancient music: the soprano Aldona Bartnik, the counter-tenor Matthew Venner, the tenor Karol Kozlowski and the baritone Jerzy Butryn.
On the stage on November 24 Grigory Sokolov, one of the greatest alive pianist. The profound knowledge of music allows him to face a vast repertoire inscribed by sublime interpretations, he is able to rereading the pieces and reworking it in unpredictable ways, different for each interpretation. He takes about 70 concerts per year; of these, only three dates in winter 2018 will be in Italy.
The concert on December 3 will take at the Stignani theatre pieces by Bach, Saint-Saëns and Bossi. Cameristi della Scala orchestra, one of the excellence of the international music scene, the first flute of the Orchestra della Scala Andrea Manco and the violinist Francesco Manara will performe for the Imola’s audience.
The last concert of the 2018 will see Beatrice Rana, a 25 years old pianist with an international career. The Orchestra della Toscana will accompain her conducted by the young Daniele Rustioni. They will perform pieces by Mozart, Schumann and Rachmaninov.
On March 2, a Lyric Gala for a homage to Ebe Stignani, the mezzo soprano who gives the name at the city theatre, an all female concert with the best participant of the first edition of the International Voice Masterclass “Ebe Stignani” 2018.
Another winner of important international competitions will be the guest for the next concert on March 18th:he is János Balázs, one of the most acclamed young pianist. On this occasion he will bring to Stignani audience PianOpera, a tribute to the Opera with a piano concert entirely devoted to some famous transcriptions by Liszt.
On April 1st, the Trio Metamorphosi composed by the violinst Mauro Loguercio, the cellist Francesco Pepicelli and the pianist Angelo Pepicelli will perform pieces by Beethoven, Schumann and Šostakovič.
The concerts season will close on April 16 2019 with the impressive and sublime Requiem Mass by Mozart with the choral parts entrusted to the historical Münchener Bach-Chor, a prestigious German institution. To support it will be the Young Musicians European Orchestra, active for years on the international scene giving a lot of attention to young European musicians, founded by its conductor Paolo Olmi, protagonist of operas and concerts all over the world in great theatres and major orchestras. The solo parts will be performed by young lyric talents with already important international career: the soprano Arianna Vendittelli, the mezzo-soprano Victoria Yarovaya, the tenor Manuel Amati and the bass Mirco Palazzi.
And out of the season ticket will be four free appointments called L’Opera nel Ridotto, four tributes to great composers of the past in the Ebe Stignani Theatre Ridotto dedicated to the world of opera, with introductions by Luca Rebeggiani that precede the video projection of entire works or parts of them. On October 26 the homage to Rossini for the 150th anniversary of his death with one his famous opera: The barber of Seville; on November 16th with an excursus on the works of Leonard Bernstein for the 100th anniversary of his birth. On 11 January 2019 with the sparkling “Opéra-bouffe” La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Offenbach’s birth and finally on 22 March with Alcina for a tribute to Händel in the 160 years since his death.
